FINAL ABODE OF THE SOUL


What final destination we should aim at? What should be the result of our material and spiritual activities? What goal we must aspire for?  

Lord Krishna suggests (Bg. 15.4)  “Thereafter, one must seek that place from which, having gone, one never returns, and there surrender to that Supreme Personality of God from whom everything began and from whom everything has extended since time immemorial.”

In the following verse Shri Krishna describes in brief about that destination.


न तद्भासयते सूर्यो न शशाङ्को न पावकः ।
यद्गत्वा न निवर्तन्ते तद्धाम परमं मम ॥ १५-६॥
na tad bhasayate suryo na sasanko na pavakah
yad gatva na nivartante tad dhama paramam mama



Bg 15.6 — That supreme abode of Mine is not illumined by the sun or moon, nor by fire or electricity. Those who reach it never return to this material world.  




EXPLANATION

Many traditions, religions or cultures from around the world talk of the Kingdom of God or spiritual abode. But most of them cannot say much about it. The Vedic texts, however, give detailed descriptions of what the spiritual world is like.

There is a spiritual sky abouve the material sky. In this sky are floating many Vaikunth planets each of which is the abode of an incarnation of Lord Vishnu - Shri Krishna, Shri Ram .... etc. In the spiritual sky there is no need of sunshine, moonshine, fire or electricity, because all the planets are self-luminous. We have only one planet in this universe, the sun, which is self-luminous, but all the planets in the spiritual sky are self-luminous. The shining effulgence of all those planets which are called Vaikunthas constitutes the shining sky known as the brahmajyoti.

As long as a living entity is in this dark material world, he is in conditional life, but as soon as he reaches the spiritual sky by transcending this material world, he becomes liberated.  Then there is no chance of his coming back here.  He enters into the spiritual kingdom and becomes an associate of the Supreme Lord. There he enjoys eternal bliss and eternal life full of knowledge.

 ONE SHOULD MAKE USE OF THIS INFORMATION.  

According to scriptures teaching devotion, one should desire to transfer himself to that eternal world. In order to achieve it one must practice detachment. One cannot become detached from the attraction of the physical world simply by dressing himself in saffron cloth. But, one must become attached to the devotional service of the Lord.

The words “paramam mama” are very important here. Actually every nook and corner is the property of the Supreme Lord, but the spiritual world is paramam or supreme.

The Katha Upanisad (2.2.15) also confirms that in the spiritual world there is no need of sunshine or moonshine (na tatra suryo bhati na candratarakam), for the whole spiritual sky is illuminated by the potency of the Supreme Lord. That supreme abode can be achieved only by surrender  to God and his wishes according to the path of devotion.

Shri Krishna is the lord of one of the Vaikuntha planets
