Earliest Record of Public Works


Rudradaman Inscription Found In Junagadh , Gujarat.
The inscription is significant as a historical record of public works in ancient India.
The Ashokan edicts on Girnar rock impart moral instructions on dharma, equality, harmony, tolerance, peace and repent the evil of war.
The hump-backed rock also has two later records in Sanskrit added by Rudradaman in AD 150 and by Skandgupta in AD 450.

First Record of Protecting Trees



The first recorded event of Chipko took place in village Khejarli, Jodhpur district, in 1731, when 363 Bishnois, led by Amrita Dev while protecting green Khejri trees, considered sacred by the community, by hugging them, and braved the axes of loggers sent by the local ruler. Today, it is seen as an inspiration and a precursor for Chipko movement of Garhwal.

The modern Chipko movement started in the early 1970s in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, then in Uttar Pradesh with growing awareness towards rapid deforestation. The landmark event in this struggle took place on March 26, 1974, when a group of peasant women in Reni village, Hemwalghati, in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India, acted to prevent the cutting of trees and reclaim their traditional forest rights that were threatened by the contractor system of the state Forest Department. Their actions inspired hundreds of such actions at the grassroots level throughout the region.


Eran: Witness to Vedic, Buddhist & Gupta Period
 


Eran is an ancient town and archaeological site in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, India.The site has 5th and 6th-century Gupta era temples and monuments.
During 600 B.C , Eran Was Part of Chedi Janpada. In Pali-language Buddhist texts, it is listed as one of the sixteen mahajanapadas.
According to the Mahabharata, the Chedi Kingdom was ruled by Shishupala, an ally of Jarasandha of Magadha and Duryodhana of Kuru. He was a rival of Vasudeva Krishna who was his uncle's son.
